- Spread the color around: "Incorporate fruit into your flowers," Cowie says. "Big, round grapes and apples give a big punch of color and are less expensive than flowers." Also, Cowie suggests that instead of one large flower arrangement, try to do "two or four smaller arrangements" on each table.
- Use candles everywhere: "There is no such thing as too many candles," he offers. "They're inexpensive. And besides, everybody looks better in candlelight."
- Spend on food: "You never want to save money on food quality," he insists. "Always serve a quality meal." Cowie acknowledges that cost will influence the menu. But top quality should always be the key requirement, he emphasizes. "If it is chicken you're serving, make sure it is a plump chicken breast. Don't skimp."
